welcome

Hey there, I’m Elizabeth Jordie Davies. I’m a writer and researcher living in California. I write about Black politics, Black feminism, and social movements. Here, I will write about that stuff but also other topics, like art, movies, writing as a practice, and what it means to be in community.

I’ve been writing in some capacity for many years, with public-facing work at The Black Youth Project, The Century Foundation, and BITCH Media. My academic work is in a range of academic journals, including Ethnic and Racial Studies, Politics, Groups, and Identities, and Social Science Quarterly. You can find a list of my publications here.

why a newsletter?

I wrote a bit here about why I decided to start this newsletter, but fundamentally I wanted a space to cultivate conversations and be expressive in my writing. My intention is to publish weeklyish pieces reflecting on culture, politics, art, movies, music, books, and life in southern California.
